A zkOracle is a type of blockchain oracle that integrates zero-knowledge proofs (zk-proofs) to securely provide external data to smart contracts without requiring trust in a third party. These oracles enhance the functionality and security of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications by enabling complex computations and data analysis, like AI inference, to be performed in a trustless and decentralized manner.
Unlike traditional oracles, which often depend on staking mechanisms where nodes place collateral to participate, zkOracles utilize cryptographic techniques to ensure data integrity and accuracy. This mitigates common issues such as manipulation and trust, which are prevalent with staking-based oracles.
